indie

In the United Sates, with the culture of showing support for the "little guy," a new breed of shoppers has emerged. The "indie shopper” wants products with impeccable quality, fashion sense, unique flair, and a dash of sass. Shopping "indie" means your purchase is helping your neighbor, your sister, your friend from school, very hard working, extremely talented people. People working long hours, and only getting paid if you like their work enough to buy it.

Fort Adams, a National Historic Landmark and an official project of “Save America’s Treasures”, is an extremely valuable, untapped resource for the State of Rhode Island and the New England region. This twenty-acre site has the potential to become a major historic attraction, educational facility and cultural center for the public to enjoy. The site was first fortified in 1799 after the Revolutionary War and named for President John Adams. The current Fort Adams is the largest coastal fortification in the United States. Built from 1824 – 1857, the Fort was active through World War II.

Today Fort Adams offers guided tours from mid-May through Columbus Day weekend and is available for private site rentals and public events. Fort Adams has been used as the site of a variety of special events, most notably the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals each August.
